The KHANS Family

(Roohi POV)

I didn’t sleep.

Not really.

Morning came quietly, sunlight slipping through the curtains like nothing had changed.

But everything had.

I sat up slowly, adjusting my dupatta, my eyes scanning the unfamiliar room again.

Still not mine.

Still didn’t feel like it ever would be.

A soft knock broke my thoughts.

“Come in…”

My voice came out quieter than I expected.

The door opened, and a maid stepped in gently.

“Madam, breakfast is ready downstairs.”

Madam.

The word felt strange.

I nodded faintly.
“I’ll come.”

i get ready in casual shalwar kamiz....The hallway felt even bigger in daylight.

Every step echoed softly as I walked downstairs, my heart beating just a little faster.

This wasn’t just a house.

It was… their space.

Their world.

And I was the outsider.

As I entered the dining area, conversations slowed.

Not stopped.

But slowed enough for me to notice.

Eyes turned toward me.

Observing. Measuring.

I lowered my gaze slightly.

“Come, beta.”

Mrs. Khan’s voice broke the tension.

She sat at the head of the table, composed as always.

Graceful. Controlled.

I moved toward her slowly, taking the seat she indicated.

“This is my elder son, Zayan—you’ve already met,” she said calmly.

My fingers tightened slightly.

I didn’t look at him.

“And this…” she gestured to the man sitting across from me,
“is Rayyan.”

I looked up slightly.

Rayyan Khan.

Unlike Zayan—

He looked… easier.

A faint smile played on his lips, his posture relaxed.

“Bhabhi,” he said lightly, almost teasing,
“that was quite an entry you made yesterday.”

My breath caught.

Before I could respond—

“Rayyan.”

Zayan’s voice.

Cold. Sharp.

The smile on Rayyan’s face didn’t disappear…

But it softened.

“Too soon?” he shrugged casually.

Mrs. Khan gave him a warning look.
“Mind your tone.”

Silence fell again.

I looked down at my plate, my appetite completely gone.

“Eat,” Mrs. Khan said gently.

I nodded faintly, forcing myself to pick up a small bite.

Across the table—

I could feel his gaze.

Zayan.

Not soft.
Not warm.

Just… watching.

Analyzing.

As if I was something unfamiliar he was trying to understand.

Or control.

“So…” Rayyan spoke again, breaking the silence,
“How does it feel? First day in the Khan house?”

I hesitated.

Every answer felt wrong.

“Different,” I said quietly.

He smirked slightly.
“That’s one way to put it.”

“Enough,” Zayan said again, his tone firmer now.

This time, Rayyan leaned back, raising his hands slightly.
“Alright, I’ll behave.”

But the tension didn’t leave.

It stayed.

Lingering in every glance.

Every word.

Every silence.

I realized something then.

This family…

Wasn’t loud.

Wasn’t chaotic.

It was controlled.

Measured.

Careful.

And beneath all of that—

Something deeper existed.

Something I didn’t understand yet.

But I would.

Because now—

I was a part of it.

Whether I wanted to be…

Or not.
