(Roohi POV)
I didnโt sleep.
Not really.
Morning came quietly, sunlight slipping through the curtains like nothing had changed.
But everything had.
I sat up slowly, adjusting my dupatta, my eyes scanning the unfamiliar room again.
Still not mine.
Still didnโt feel like it ever would be.
A soft knock broke my thoughts.
โCome inโฆโ
My voice came out quieter than I expected.
The door opened, and a maid stepped in gently.
โMadam, breakfast is ready downstairs.โ
Madam.
The word felt strange.
I nodded faintly.
โIโll come.โ
i get ready in casual shalwar kamiz....The hallway felt even bigger in daylight.
Every step echoed softly as I walked downstairs, my heart beating just a little faster.
This wasnโt just a house.
It wasโฆ their space.
Their world.
And I was the outsider.
As I entered the dining area, conversations slowed.
Not stopped.
But slowed enough for me to notice.
Eyes turned toward me.
Observing. Measuring.
I lowered my gaze slightly.
โCome, beta.โ
Mrs. Khanโs voice broke the tension.
She sat at the head of the table, composed as always.
Graceful. Controlled.
I moved toward her slowly, taking the seat she indicated.
โThis is my elder son, Zayanโyouโve already met,โ she said calmly.
My fingers tightened slightly.
I didnโt look at him.
โAnd thisโฆโ she gestured to the man sitting across from me,
โis Rayyan.โ
I looked up slightly.
Rayyan Khan.
Unlike Zayanโ
He lookedโฆ easier.
A faint smile played on his lips, his posture relaxed.
โBhabhi,โ he said lightly, almost teasing,
โthat was quite an entry you made yesterday.โ
My breath caught.
Before I could respondโ
โRayyan.โ
Zayanโs voice.
Cold. Sharp.
The smile on Rayyanโs face didnโt disappearโฆ
But it softened.
โToo soon?โ he shrugged casually.
Mrs. Khan gave him a warning look.
โMind your tone.โ
Silence fell again.
I looked down at my plate, my appetite completely gone.
โEat,โ Mrs. Khan said gently.
I nodded faintly, forcing myself to pick up a small bite.
Across the tableโ
I could feel his gaze.
Zayan.
Not soft.
Not warm.
Justโฆ watching.
Analyzing.
As if I was something unfamiliar he was trying to understand.
Or control.
โSoโฆโ Rayyan spoke again, breaking the silence,
โHow does it feel? First day in the Khan house?โ
I hesitated.
Every answer felt wrong.
โDifferent,โ I said quietly.
He smirked slightly.
โThatโs one way to put it.โ
โEnough,โ Zayan said again, his tone firmer now.
This time, Rayyan leaned back, raising his hands slightly.
โAlright, Iโll behave.โ
But the tension didnโt leave.
It stayed.
Lingering in every glance.
Every word.
Every silence.
I realized something then.
This familyโฆ
Wasnโt loud.
Wasnโt chaotic.
It was controlled.
Measured.
Careful.
And beneath all of thatโ
Something deeper existed.
Something I didnโt understand yet.
But I would.
Because nowโ
I was a part of it.
Whether I wanted to beโฆ
Or not.
